Windows Genuine Advantage Notifcation
(it’s not a virus!)
You may be a victim of software
counterfeiting. This copy of Windows is not genuine and is not eligible
to receive all updates and product support from Microsoft.
Click Get Genuine now to get
more information and resolve this issue.
This latest Windows update has been popping up on people's computers
around the globe over the last two months and represents Microsoft’s
latest effort of ensuring everyone on the planet owns at least one valid
Windows license. Increasingly, it is going to become difficult to use
a non-valid (ie free/pirated/VLK) copy of windows and already you are
restricted from downloading non-critical Windows updates. By the time
Windows Vista hits your computer, it will take more time to get around
a valid Windows license than it will take you to peel potatoes to pay
for a copy.
If you would like to get rid of the annoying message from Microsoft then
here are the instructions:
- Go to Control Panel -> Folder options and untick “use simple
file sharing” and make sure you have ticked “show hidden
files and folders” and untick “hide protected operating
system files”
- Navigate to c:\windows\system32 and right click on wgalogon.dll
- Go to the security tab and click on advanced.
- Untick the option at the botton that says “inherit permissions…”
then click the “copy” option.
- For the users listed in the window double click on each one and take
the tick off the option that says “execute” do this for
each user.
- Click OK and do the reverse of step 1 (optional).
Alternatively you have these options:
a. Click on the links provided by Microsoft and change your copy of XP
Professional into a real one for AU$238
b. Let PF Systems transfer your system to a valid copy of XP Home or do
so yourself $147.
c. Put up with the message.
BigPond 3G
With Telstra’s copper network increasingly been seen as a liability,
and startup wireless infrastructure companies like Westvic taking more
of the broadband pie, Telstra is 100% focused on supplying a competitive
wireless data solution. 3G, or third generation wireless, is the much
anticipated wireless data network aimed at providing broadband speed internet
access, anytime, anywhere. Worthy of noting is that both voice and data
will operate on the same network with 3G mobiles and so the lines between
voice and data are beginning to be eroded. Here’s a bit of roadmap
to explain 3G and its historical/future context:

Analog (voice only) |

Currently, in our rural setting, 3G still means 1xRTT which really isn’t
3G at all and certainly isn’t broadband speeds, but it is handy
and much better than GSM/GPRS speeds. All 3G devices currently being offered
are compatible with 1xRRT/1xEV-DO or GSM/W-CDMA.
As a reminder to all those road warriors out there and for those wanting
to simplify their internet access on-the-go then Bigpond’s CDMA/EVDO
offerings are a good solution. With Bigpond wireless broadband you’ll
be able to connect to the internet at speeds of up to 140K anywhere that
you have a CDMA mobile phone signal. And for those of you worried about
the future compatilibity of these devices, here’s a letter
from Rod James of Telstra Country Wide:
The
CDMA will close around the end of 08, but not before the new 3G mobile
system gives equal to or better than the current CDMA coverage.
Any customers that have mobile data devices, that is mini max , 1X cards
will have them replaced with 3G at no cost, and get better speeds
Customers on CDMA contracts, and there will not be many, will be able
to upgrade, at nil handset cost on 24 month contracts.
On the 3G network the range of service delivered to customers will far
exceed current data rates and anyone in mobile cover will be able to
get Big Pond broadband at much higher speeds
So all in all a superior service by the end of 06 / early 07
Just remember that PF Systems offers a full range of PDAs, phones and
mobile data devices under our PF direct buying scheme. PF Systems is also
a Telstra Mobile Data dealer and can offer the full range of Telstra data
plans available, such as these:
GOOD MOBILE DATA PLANS WITH
$0 INCLUDED DEVICES |
$49 (20hr) PC-PACK / 24 month contract |
$79 (500MB) DATA-PACK / 24 month
contract |
$89 Business Mobility Pack / 24

Windows Media Center
After a period of ‘development’ the Media Center concept
is now ready for general consumption, and it works very well and is very
reliable. Windows Media Center Edition 2005 could be viewed as Microsoft’s
single most important product since Windows XP, and is Microsoft’s
first major pitch at spreading from our home office and workplace into
our lounge room.
Windows Media Center 2005 is now acceptably stable, has a working free
Electronic Programming Guide and is a great option for those people wishing
to simplify their lounge rooms. Come and check out PF Systems Media Center
Lounge room and see for yourself (just ring us first).
 |
A D V A N T A G E S
- Modular approach - 1 box which can be upgraded
and changed as required eg. buy a media center with analogue tuners
and change it to digital tuners when required.
- EPG – FREE Electronic program guide
means that you watch what you want, when you want - COMMERCIAL
FREE! Just read through the onscreen TV guide and decide what
shows/series you want to watch.
- 1 remote – Control your system with
one remote
- Multimedia – Play DVDs, watch live and
recorded TV, look at your photos, play your music and use online
services, radio, video.
o NB: if you have PayTV you’ll still need to keep this box
and remote

XBOX 360 – Extending your Media Center Experience

The Xbox 360 is not just a games machine, although it most definitely
will be very good for that. The Xbox 360 is more importantly designed
to connect to your Windows XP Media Center computer and thus share access
with the digital video and audio content you have on that machine. More
importantly, if that machine has a couple of TV tuner cards, you can share
TV and all your recorded TV wherever there is an Xbox and TV in your house.
At $500, the Xbox is definitely not outrageously priced as it offers a
huge amount of processing potential.
Designed to compliment Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (Update Rollup
2), you will turn your ordinary TV into a Media Center where on-demand
viewing is the order of the day. For free-to-air transmissions (analogue
& digital) your Media Center PC can be recording everything you want
to watch in the background, and in the evening you can sit down and watch
the shows you want, when you want, and quickly and easily skip all the
commercials. If you want to watch live TV, listen to some music, watch
a DVD, look at some photos or play some digital movie files then that
is all possible too. You’ll also be able to take advantage of Microsoft’s
Online Spotlight which will let you view audio and video content from
all around the world. After installing Windows Media Center Edition 2005
on your existing home PC this is how you’d bring the Media Center
experience to your existing TV. Of course, if you want to put a Media
Center straight into your lounge room then you don’t need an Xbox.
Kind regards,
Ben Druitt & Phuong-Dung Hoang - PF Systems
