PF Systems News - ADSL2+What is ADSL2+?
ADSL 2+ will pave the way for a much higher level of multimedia content delivered over the internet and will also greatly increase the speed at which you can chare your own files with the rest of the world. Of particular benefit will be businesses who would like to access their office remotely. ADSL works by utilising the higher frequencies of a standard copper cable telephone line, in conjunction with a telephone line filter, so that you can use your phone and stay connect to the Internet all at the same time. ADSL2+ is an enhanced version of ADSL that provides improved performance and even higher data speeds, up to 20 megabits per second (whereas ADSL1 offers up to 8Mbps) although actual speeds vary due to a number of factors including distance, as shown above. Another advantage of ADSL2+ is that "naked" ADSL2+ plans are availalbe which do not require that you rent a phone line, if you do not need one for voice calls, this can save you around $30 a month. As an example, a 500MB medium length film could be downloaded in as little as:
*20Mbps plans not available to all customers or in all areas. 1.5Mbps and 256kbps are theoretical network maximums. The 20Mbps and 8Mbps speeds are based on Telstra tests. Actual speeds may be less due to a number of factors including network configuration, line quality & length, exchange type, customer premises interference, traffic and equipment. About 70% of customers on the 8Mbps plan can access speeds around 6Mbps or more. About 50% of customers on the 20Mbps plan can access speeds around 10Mbps or more. Some existing customers may need to purchase newer modems to achieve up to 20Mbps speeds. Availability and Plans (Bigpond)
* Costs are calculated based on the "12 months at half price" offer which applies when you are a new customer, have your landline and a post paid mobile phone ($20/month or above) with Telstra, and include equipment cost (standard ADSL modem) and installation. The lowest plan available only gives you 600MB of data which is going to be used quickly when you are experiencing ADSL2+ speeds. Additional usage is charged at $0.15/MB, except for members on the BigPond Liberty plans. If you are on a BigPond Liberty plan, once you reach your usage allowance, the speed of your service will slow to 64kbps. That's why PF Systems recommends the BigPond Liberty 12GB plan for $89.95/month. Naked Exetel ADSL2+ plansThese "Naked" ADSL2 plans use a copper phone line that can’t be used for making "standard" (PSTN) telephone calls on and it doesn’t have a telephone line number – it is only capable of delivering an ADSL2 service. This line can be used to make VoIP telephone calls if you have suitable VoIP equipment (a VoIP capable modem or some sort of ATA). "Naked" ADSL2 Plans Include 100 Unlimited Time National Or Local Calls (Via VoIP) if you select an Exetel VoIP service.
Excess downlads are charged $3.00 per GB. CDMA closure 28th AprilIt's official! Closing today!
The CDMA network closes today. This has officially been confirmed on the 15th of April by a media release. So for those who still haven't upgraded to Next G, it is now time to change over. PF Systems can help you migrate so don't hesitate to call in. For people located in our area, classified as a rural location, Telstra has a number of Next G mobiles that are recommended for rural handheld coverage. Handsets recommended to optimise your coverage in rural areas are marked with a blue tick on Telstra's website, as well as in our online shop. Here is again an overview of the blue tick phones available on postpaid plans that would suit most people.
These handsets are in stock now. So you are welcome to come and see us in our headquarters to connect to a new plan or migrate from CDMA to Next G.
New i-mate releasesThese two i-mate devices are the first full HSPA smartphones available in Australia. HSPA refers to support not only for HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) downloads but also HSUPA (High Speed Uplink Packet Access) uploads as well. HSPA data may seem like overkill on a mobile device for anyone who doesn't intend to send large files attached to emails. Where the speeds will be really handy is when the handset shares its mobile broadband with your PC. It's here that HSPA should offer a similar mobile broadband experience to your fixed line ADSL2 connection.

Review "The 8502 is exactly what an incremental update should be: it's better. Its smaller size, greater range of connectivity options and longer battery life are necessary and welcomed improvements, and the processing performance is at least comparable to the older phones. Being the first true HSPA handset in Australia is a noteworthy milestone and edges the Ultimate 8502 out in front as the best Windows Mobile smartphone we've seen to date." Review "There is no doubt the 9502 is an impressive phone, with a raft of features including full HSPA, a big high resolution touch screen and Windows Mobile 6. This phone is designed for business users - and we think i-mate have really hit the nail on the head in this market with the Ultimate 9502. However be aware that Telstra's advertised data rates can be taken with a grain of salt, and set up a strong password when using Secure i-Q."
