Hi everyone,
Here’s our third
newsletter for you all. In this issue:
-
Protect your computer with Windows
Service Pack 2
As mentioned in our
previous mail out, BROADBAND is
finally coming to Port Fairy in the form of:
Over the past few weeks,
there have been quite a few changes to the plans and installation deals
available from these two companies. As the time where people will be connected
draws closer, the plans offered with the slowest 256Kb connections are becoming
highly competitive and represent excellent value for people thinking of
changing over to broadband.

Both are offered with a
$0 installation on a 24 month contract or $100 and $189 respectively, on a 12
month contract.
If one adds the money
they spend on their dialup account, including local dialup calls and sometimes
a second line, the 200MB plans offered will mostly save you money. However,
these 200MB plans are primarily designed to encourage people to change to broadband
and then 85% of people change to a higher plan soon after as they find 200MB is
inadequate. So, BE CAREFUL. these 200MB plans are very small by broadband standards and
will be only suitable for people with extremely light internet usage. If you go
over the 200MB you will then be paying 10c/15c per megabyte after this limit.
For another 200MB, this will double your monthly bill.
For stress free internet
use, the unlimited plans are much better value and will cost people the same
amount if you already have a dedicated phone line for the internet in your
household.
Westvic Wireless Broadband will start connecting people
on the 20th of September and Telstra in the first week of next
month.
Their installation
special of $99 (instead of $440.00) on a 12 month contract has been extended
until the 31st of October. You need to be located within the mapped area shown on
our website to qualify for this offer. If you have signed up before the new
prices were released, you will be redirected to the 256/64 Unlimited Plan
($59.95/month) and Westvic will contact you to
confirm that this is ok.
The complete pricing
structure for Westvic and Bigpond
are as follows:

We have recently
decreased our margins on all parts and equipment. Also, we have increased our
charged labour rate from $44/hour to $55/hour with a minimum callout fee of $22
(all prices include GST). Check our website for updated prices on systems and
selected products. Our online catalogue contains only a small sample of the
products we have on offer, so don’t hesitate to contact us for a quote.
The future of computing
is small. Last months bestsellers are these lightweight and compact storage
devices.
Canon’s new range of
PIXMA printers is now available and the new PIXMA All-In-One range will be
available at the start of November 2004.
As
an end of line product, our Budget model All-in-one has dropped in price
dramatically and is very good value at the moment.
As mentioned in our first
newsletter, you need to update Windows on a regular basis to help protect your
computer. About once a year, Microsoft releases a bundled update to Windows XP.
These updates (called Service Packs) contain all the fixes and enhancements
which have been made available in the previous year. The latest Service Pack
for Windows XP, Service Pack 2 (SP2), has been released recently and is aimed
at improving Windows security so that you’ll be safe from all those
‘hard-to-avoid’ viruses that have plagued computers around the world over the
last year. It provides better protection against viruses, hackers and worms and
includes Windows Firewall and the new Windows Security Centre.
Installation of SP2 is
included in our $55 computer service.
Home networking will be the topic of our next newsletter.
Best
regards,
