Who is Westvic?

Westvic Broadband Pty Ltd is a Warrnambool based and locally owned private company dedicated to providing broadband services to as many Western Victorians as possible. The company directors have worked in the computer industry around the Western District for many years. It became very apparent that the existing ISP's operating in rural Western Victoria had little interest in supplying affordable broadband services to other than the larger population centres that delivered larger profits.

This frustrating situation led the directors to investigate the possibility of providing this badly needed service themselves. After many months of research and a hugh amount of planning and organization over about a 12-month period, the new company was formed. Now Westvic Broadband is rolling out a state of the art wireless network that will see many hundreds of Western Victorians have access to broadband services comparable or better than the larger population centres.

The technology being used is direct from American army research and is one of the first implementations of this equipment in Australia. Installation involves the placement of a small antenna on your roof and a box that sits near your computer, much like a modem. The internet will be always on and will be completely independent of your phone line and phone bill.

Government Scheme

Westvic Broadband services are made possible by HiBIS and the Broadband Connect schemes. Westvic are being subsidised by the Government to provide broadband to regions that do not currently have access to these services. It also means that they must meet or exceed specific service performance criteria – this is definitely a good guarantee for the end user as compared to providers like DODO.
